RAID basics?

Hello All,

Completely new to RAID idea. Been looking for ways to put all my external hard drives into one system instead of individuals. What I came across is a RAID system, which upon looking around, I found this: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=BA23702.

What exactly do I need to use this raid system? Can I just plug and play as any USB External enclosure into a USB port? Can I use this with a laptop? Any additional info on this system is much appreciated.

Sorry, guys, if this seems very basic, but I really don't know much about these stuffs yet. The product description doesn't say much about what's required.

You would need to remove your external harddrives from their current housing and install them in the MobileSTOR unit. You can then attach the unit to your pc or laptop using a USB cable.
 
Thanks, spazoid. This seems more simple then i thought. Any forewanings you might have for first time RAID users? Any particular brand would you recommand?
 
A good idea would be to get 4 identical drives. They should at least be of the same size, but the more identical they are, the greater your chances are of success. Besides that, it can't really go wrong with a unit like this.

The RE2 drives aren't terrible drives though, if you want a specific recommendation :)
