Anyone have any good info on this?
The only info I got was stripe size should be a divisible of 2048.
This is specifically for windows 7 environment.
Meaning like 128,256,512,1024 (and smaller ones I'm omitting) * number of non parity drives.
So for raid 5, its better to have an uneven number of drives and raid 6 to have even number.
Is there a special format tool too? Had anyone bench marked this?
I'm planning to buy my first hardware raid controller like today... 9260-16i And during my search for benchmarks (which I didn't find any ether) found a bit of this info.
I already have a sweet rpc-4220 w/ 3 120mm fan conversion plate that ipcdirect.net just got in stock. Will be ordering a LSI 9260-16i like today.
I was planning to run 4 drives at 256 until I saw this, now thinking 5 drives raid 5 to start out with.
Final plans were 8 @ 256 ; 7 @ 256 ; 1 hot spare. Now thinking 9 @ 256 ; 5 @ 256 ; 2 hot spares.
