I have two 74gb raptors in a raid0.

I'm getting Raid Access Errors popping up in the windows tray. They occur after closing games and happen sometimes - but not always. I'm having troubles with games as seen in http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1077468 and I need to rule this out or figure it out.

My raided raptors are of different firmware and I haven't been able to find anywhere online about how to update them. Is it even possible? (It isn't readily apparent from the WD site) I started off with major issues because the nvidia nforce 590 storage controller automatically enables NCQ which my older raptor didn't have. I fixed this by turning off Command Queueing on both drives in the RAID. I haven't had a crash since but, while I was finally able to boot up games, I started having other issues with them. The initial command queue caused crashes fucked up the file system a little bit but I've run chkdsk to correct this. Now when I get the first RAID access error after a recovery console chkdsk it creates more problems with the filesystem...which is causing a cycle. Having a fixed filesystem isn't helping my other computer problems (as far as I can tell) but it'd be nice to be have a stable RAID.

Here are the errors from the event log. It seems random as to which drive it occurs on.

Access failure: Critical error on disk WDC WD740GD-00FLA1 (Port: SATA 1.1).
(or)
Access failure: Critical error on disk WDC WD740GD-00NLR1 (Port: SATA 1.0).

I've found some things online that say that these might not even be real errors and just mediaShield acting up for no reason.

Nevertheless I'd still like to know whether or not its possible to upgrade the firmware of my older drive. Anybody know?
 
Run WD's diagnostics on the drives (if you can on the RAID controller :rolleyes: )

See if there's a BIOS update for your mobo that address RAID issues and/or driver update from Nvidia.
