I got a 3ware 4 port SATA card and four 250GB WD drives hooked to it. I'm running a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP mobo. My array is a RAID 5.
I'm not seeing speed off this thing. I'm sure it's due to something related to the chipset since it's a slow set. I get read speeds of 35MB/s according to HD Tach and Atto. My write speeds are about the same. 5% CPU utilization off my 2000+ as well.
Anyone know of tricks to get more throughput or do I need a different board for more performance?
I'm planning to upgrade this winter to a SuperMicro dual Xeon board with PCI-X slots (for my 3D work) so that will be the final solution in all this since the RAID card is meant for 64/66 PCI-X.
