Ok, I have a 3x320gb raid5 setup. Say I add another HD to the group, but it is a 400gb 16mb cache drive. (the 320's are 8mb cache). will it work ok?

Also what if the rpm's arn't the same, does it matter any?

I'm not looking for speed, I do want reliability.

hmm not sure myself, I was under the impression that in order to setup any raid array that the drives would need to be identical in size and speed. The cache not sure on that either , i'm guessing that if you are even able to setup raid with an odd drive in the array , it would only run as fast as the slowest component... ie. 8mb cache ?

sorry just thinking outloud i guess....

It'll work but it'll only use 320 of the 400 drive and all drives will operate at the slowest common denomenator
