Help. I have a Raid 5 array where I work and we received an alarm from the server that one of the drives had gone bad. The server was still chugging along fine however. I replaced the drive with the exact same HD drive that went bad. I then went into the Adaptec bios and attempted to format the new drive. It ran for awhile and then reported that the drive had failed. I rebooted the server and everything booted up correctly even though the one drive was reported as failede. I shutdown the server down and went back into the adaptec bios and it now reports that all drives have failed and the raid array is dead (don't like the sound of that).
I can't believe that all of the drives have failed and would prefer to believe that something has gone wrong with the controller or the configuration of the raid array.
I don't have a good current backup of the data and I'm not sure if doing a build is going to nuke my data.
Any suggestions on what I should try next?
