RAID 5 on Asus P5E intel x38

I'm building a new system (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1253283) and want to have RAID 5 on it. Is the "intel matrix storage" raid real or just software raid? The motherboard on my last system died, so I'm skeptical of using a motherboard specific raid implementation. Can anyone recommend a good value raid controller that would handle the 3 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s in raid 5?

it's software raid, and it's not really mobo specific, it's chipset specific any chipset that runs the same or higher version of intel matrix will recognize your raid.
If you want a cheap dedicated raid card look into high point cards.
