Anyone have any experience with the built-in RAID in the nVidia 430 chipset?

I'm looking at building a RAID5 storage machine for use at home, just to load all my music and video clips and miscellaneous junk to a place with a semblance of data security rather than burning to DVD and hoping the disks don't degrade before i need them.

i need to keep it low cost, and when i saw that this chipset has RAID5 capabilities on board, it sounded good, but i haven't been able to find any good reviews on it's RAID setup.
 
Well, in a couple of months I'll be doing it. I can let you know then. . .:)

I've been using a RAID 0 for a year now on the nForce4 chipset and it's been almost nothing but smooth (there's a glitch in the nForce4 SLI chipset which happens when you're testing unstable overclocks that causes the first SATA port to eat a dick and corrupt the information on the drive).

Practically, I do not notice an increase in the use of system resources and any signs of instability (especially since moving off the first SATA port) and though it has not much to do with RAID 5 I think I will trust nVidia with it.

IDE or SATA RAID5?
 
i'm thinking SATA if at all possible...slightly better future-proofing IMO

and i'm not going to be OCing this system, or using it much at all...it's going to be strictly storage for now
 
Well, I've got everything except the RAM and the motherbard, so if I can swallow the costs next paycheck I'll let you know how it goes.
