I really want to, but of course space is very limited. Has anyone ever done it? Of course, the first thing to do is remove the card reader... I'm considering TIG welding 2 more drives on the bottom of the current drive cage, as that is about the only way to do it, and even then the clearance is extremely tight. Any ideas?

Have you got a good look at the way the drives mount in the aria case?

I was considering mounting 5 IDE drives in one... 4 being in RAID 5 and one for boot. Since mine was going to be a linux file server/game server, I didn't really need the 5.25" drive... so I was just going to make a custom plate to mount the drives vertically like the side drives hang. The 5.25" plate was gonna have a couple fans or something because it gets REALLY hot. You could probably get away with using a slim cdrom if you really needed one.
