I have a RocketRaid 1820a and have 3 250gig hard drives in Raid 5.

I am wondering if through the software I can expand the array by adding a 4th hard drive. Thus making 4x250g hard drives in raid 5.

Thanks!

I believe it has that option - look through the help file/manual and see if it mentions it. "Online capacity expansion" is what you're looking for.

Hmm the only thing I am seeing is the ability to add a drive to a broken array.....

Sorry, I was thinking of the 2220a. You may be able to upgrade to that card for a reasonable price if you can find someone to buy it from you, but if you decide to try that I'd be sure to call tech support and see if it's compatible with the array so you don't end up wiping everything.

I vaguely remember the 1820a having OCE. Dig a little deeper in the pdf files.

It doesn't. This was confirmed by a tech at HighPoint.

I hence went out and bought a RocketRaid 2220
