Hey guys. I am new to RAID setups and currently came across a raid card for like 30$ (Highpoint RocketRAID 640) and am interested in setting up a 4 ssd RAID 0 configuration to use as a boot drive. The downside is, I have 2 Samsung 830s and 2 Adata S510s both around 120 gig capacity. Will these drives work well together or would I take a pretty decent performance hit for not using all 830s?

My advice. Do not do this. Either sell all your dives and get a larger single SSD or use the Intel ports for your raid. The only good RAID controllers for SSDs are $400+ SAS cards from LSI or Areca. All other raid cards are not well suited for SSDs.

well in that case would you be able to recommend a good Raid card since I have wanted to go down this road for a long time and right now 400$ doesn't look too terrible

I will probably be pulling the trigger on this next Friday when i get paid. Thanks for the suggestions and if you have any other ideas in the mean time feel free to post

I also advise that you search this forum for raiding SSDs. This topic comes up frequently.

What about the intel raid sas controllers?

As for raid 0 on SSDs. I have it working fine on 2 systems and when I get the money to buy 2 more I will be updating this system to use 2 in Raid 0 for the OS/Apps as well.

Soo.... does this work or not? Should be easy enough to really test with a pair of drives known to show really bad performance without trim.

Yes they should work together. I am currently using 2 different brands of HDDs in my Raid 6. There shouldn't be any difference really.
