I have a PATA diamondmax with 16mb cache, nice and fast. I also have two 120 gig maxtor sata drives with 8mb cache, some of the first ones released.

With the 120s in raid-0, comparing to the 16megger, which setup would do better in gaming?

Secondary question, VIA or Promise onboard raid? Interested in lowset CPU usage. I also have every IDE channel filled up if that makes a difference.

The 16MB drive, hands down. Higher density, bigger buffer = faster setup. RAID-0 is not going to change that. Even in tasks where RAID-0 does scale well, the RAID-0 setup will still fall short or just barely equal the 16MB drive. For tasks where RAID-0 shows little to no benefit, you're way behind.

As for the RAID, I'd go with the Via, as it should be hooked right into the southbridge.
