Raid 0 question.

Can a RAID 0 be created using an existing drive that has data on it without losing any data?

I have an existing 1tb drive and have one that i just got.. ..

heres the situation.. i am getting a intel x25-m 160 and using that as my boot drive.. but i currently am running 2 250gb's in raid 0 and i want to take those out and use one of my existing 1 tb drives and use the new and raid it but i dont' want to lose the data on the other 1 tb drive and don't have enough room to backup the data on the tb drive.

any help?
 
Ok, let me make sure I understand what you want to do.
1) Keep all data from the 500 Gb raid 0 set.
2) Transfer that data over to a new raid 0 set thats 2Gb.


If thats what you want to do, it can be done but its gonna be a pain. First, copy everything over to the 1Tb. Now break the 250's up to single drives. Now divide your files up across the 2 standalone 250's. Set those aside. Now create a raid 0 array from the 1 TB drives. Then transfer everything back over from the single 250's.

Gonna have to do a lot of rebooting, swapping drives and sitting around waiting but it can be done.
 
No i want to remove the 500gb totally and replace it with 2 1tb drives .. and don't care bout the data on the 500gbs just have a lot of moives and such on one of the tb drives.. and i have a brand new one so was going to raid it.
 
Well, you have to figure out a way to store the ones you want to keep thats off of the 1 Tb. Or delete the ones you dont want, lol. You could use an online backup service, or borrow a friends drive, etc. Im assuming youre using windows and as far as I know theres no way to make a raid stripe and not lose whats on the drives......
 
Intel controller can do this; start with one disk without RAID and migrate to a RAID0 array. Intel can also do things like RAID level migration, resizing, raid on partitions and other fancy stuff the casual onboard RAID drivers from other vendors cannot.
