For the fun of it I made a RAID 0 array out of two 1001FALS (WD Caviar Black 3 platter) for my boot drive and bench marked it using crystal disk mark 3.0.1 x64. My results were (using the default test patterns):
Read Write
SEQ: 171.2/MBs | 155.7/MBs
512K: 34.42/MBs | 70.59/MBs
4K .447/MBs | 1.788/MBs
4K 1.742/MBs | 2.150/MBs
QD32

Any thoughts on the performance? The 4K look a little weird to me but am having issues finding other benchmarks of these drives in RAID 0.

My PC is as follows: Core i7 920 - 6GB Corsair DDR3 @ 1333mhz - 2 WD Black 1001FALS - ASUS P6T - Misc stuff not important to HD testing....

**Disclaimer: using these in raid 0 isn't the smartest thing to do, however I don't care. I use a different drive for archiving so it doesn't matter if the array blows up. Just waiting for my next upgrade cycle when the successor to Sandy Bridge comes around, then its SSD party time!

Speeds look reasonable. What do you feel is wrong with the 4k results?

Well I after looking at anothers single disk performance I guess I'm extrapoliting more performance than I should...

This is reasonable speeds. Similar to what I get on my 640GB x 2 RAID 0.
