Hey guys, I really need your help now...
Recently I had to reformat because of a trojan (thanks roommate...) wrecking my TCP/IP stack. So I go about the normal procedure. Before the reformat, here's how I set up my drives
2 Physical Drives - Seagate SATA 160 7200 in RAID 0 Array
1 Promise Fast Trak S150 + 1 PCI RAID Card
4 Partitions
C: WinXP Pro install
D: , E:, F: All storage drives, no OS
I also had a completely unformatted 160gb SATA connected to my IC7-G SATA.
So I go to reformat, use the floppy to load the PCI RAID Drivers, and get to the partitioning scene.... so i take a deep breath and delete my C: partition... i go to create a new one in the exact same space... and damn, it tells me it needs to create files on the unformatted mobo-connected hard drive. Well, i was planning to load linux onto that drive, so i didn't want a bunch of windows crap there.
Before I exit setup it looks like this...
Solo drive-
Unparitioned space- XXXXXXXX (the whole drive)
RAID Array
Unparitioned space XXXXXXXX
D: XXXXXXX
E: XXXXXXX
F: XXXXXXX
So I turn off the computer and disconnect the solo drive and reboot. I get back to winxp setup and the solo drive is (expectedly) not there...however, my Array now looks like this
Unpartitioned Space (Formerly C
XXXXX
C: (Formerly D
XXXXX paritition 1
D: (formerly E
XXXXX partition 2
E: (formerly F
XXXXX partitition 3
I'm not liking this... so i try to create a new partition, and the area formerly C: now is created as Partition 4, and as H: !
So we have
H: XXXXXX Partition 4 empty
C: XXXXXX Partition 1 Stuff on it
D: XXXXXX Partition 2 Stuff on it
E: XXXXXX Partition 3 Stuff on it
I really wanted to install windows on my first partition, the C: . I don't want to delete or reformat my original D/E/F drives. Is there a way to reassign the drive letters?
Thanks
