I'm trying to build a new system with my existing two hard drives that I have. One is a Western Digital 120GB 7200rpm 8mb cache and the other is a Maxtor 120GB 7200rpm 8mb cache.

The only differences between them are: a) made by different company, obviously. b) the Maxtor is ATA133 while the WD is ATA100

My question is that if they will be able to form RAID 0. My guess is yes, but the Maxtor will run at ATA100 instead of ATA133.

What I need to confirm is that the Maxtor is actually going to work rather than being ATA133, it won't even wanna raid with the WD ATA100.

I have read the raid guides and they say to buy the same drive. Never said identical drive... Maybe same drive refers to same perf spec? :p

EDIT: my motherboard is the Biostar tforce6100-939. I am aware that it supports SATA raid 0/1, but not IDE raid. That be the case and if these two HDD can raid 0, what pci card do you guys recommend. This is my first time attempting at RAIDing.

There could be performance issues.

When it says the "same drive" it definately means the *same brand model, and if possible revision* drive.

Why do you want to run Raid0? Just connect them separately, it will probably be more trouble than its worth.

you'll almost definitely have problems and you have little to gain if you do get it working
don't bother
