First of all I would like to thank MLeahciM and djnes for helping me out and putting up with me over aim for what seemed like an eternity. It was really really nice of them, but enough of this sappy stuff and on to computer hell.
Ok, I just got a new rig and after I installed the RAID 0 Raptors my old 160 gb Maxtor IDE would only read as 30gb. I'm using the Maxtor as backup storage only. Currently I have the RAID 0 going through the Promise and I have the IDE in the primary IDE slot.
Sys specs:
P4 3.0
P4C800E Deluxe
2x512 Mushkin Lvl 1 Pc3200
ATI 9800 pro
What I did on install:
Originally there was an OS on the Maxtor. I formatted using the Maxtor cd and set partition NTFS to 160gb. Originally couldn't get the drivers from the mobo cd to load on my laptop so I tried using the Maxtor cds drivers on the Raptors windows install (don't know if that did anything). This didn't work to get windows to recognize the array so I configured XP on one of my raptors and got the drivers there. Then I setup XP with the drivers and everything went fine with the raptors, however, when I went into diskmgt I remember it saying that the maxtor drive or it is actually labeled disk 0 was not readable or something (or that might have been during when XP was on just one raptor.) Now the Maxtor is only read as 30gb, Disc 0 and drive D:. The raptors are Disc 1, 68.94gb, and C:. (not sure why Maxtor is Disc 0 since it's not the bootable drive). I contacted Maxtor, ASUS, WD. ASUS I'm still waiting on, WD said there should be no conflicts between the drives, so did Maxtor. I was also told to set the Maxtor to slave and connect it to the grey adapter on the ribbon plugged into the blue primary IDE slot for a storage drive. They thought possible that windows is still on the drive so I zero'd out the drive, but it still only says its 30gb and I'm pretty sure it only zero'd out 30gb. The drive reads as 30 on windows, Maxtor cd for the HDD, and the BIOS. I can't even reset the partition to 160, which was possible before the Raptors were installed when I formatted and partitioned as NTFS.
If anyone can help I would much appreciate it as I would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible and be at peace with my compouter.
Thanks guys
Oh and I do have XP sp1.
