Rage - PC $4.99

Most mis-directed link ever...
Correct one here:
I hope... :D
I had high hopes for the game, big DOOM fan here and anticipating the next one.
Anyone an id supporter vouch for the game? Physics? Play? Graphics? Anything worth me spending time in it?

Now it just needs a $7 instant rebate and then it would be worth it. :-P

Good deal, but I'm completely done buying physical copies of games.

But it's a non-issue in this case since Rage uses Steam no matter what.

1) Buy physical game.
2) Redeem key within DVD case on Steam.
3) Throw away the physical game.

It's almost the same as buying a digital copy of Rage, except you don't get to download it right away.

I don't deal with Newegg anymore. Plus I'm not sure Rage is worth 5 dollars.

Earlier I ate some Panda Express and that was almost $8. One meal, gone in 30 minutes. Rage should last over 10 hours on average.

feel a bit suckered now, i pickup my copy during steam Halloween sale (little under 10 bucks, bought in pound sterling so not sure of exact exchange to AUD) and was really looking forward to the gameplay after watching clip on 'cynical brit'.

loaded the game for 15mins and wasn't terribly impressed. the mouse acceleration was BAD (sorta fixable via cfg) and the frames on my system were real stuttery/hitching despite the framerate pegged at 60fps (using MSI AF as counter).
tons of people complained of texture 'pop-in', to be honest, didn't notice that much thru the stuttering.

think i might have over paid by 5 bucks on this one. was after a post apocalyptic style game so loaded up fallout:nv instead (already played stalker to death), much better experience in both gameplay & solid 60fps @ 2560x1600 max detail.

might give 'rage' another go if i can be bothered modding/tweaking the game for a solid 30-60mins in a 'attempt' to make playable.

I still can't recommend rage even at this price. I have never regretted a video game purchase before until I played rage and finished it. Worse game ever, worse ending ever, and is the very picture of linear shooters. Oh and I finished it in 6 hours. Haven't touched it since.

I played the demo on my PS3 and quite enjoyed it actually... is the experience on the PC that much worse?

How long is this deal good for? Can I think about it till tonight ya think?

I bought it for 5 bucks a few months back. I wanted a 10 refund after playing it for an hour. Only thing good about the game is John Goodman's voice.

Game activates on Steam. With the addition of the high res texture pack and modding support, I bit.

I thought id isn't going to release a high res texture pack? There's mod support? I've heard nothing of this.

Did you ever play Diakatana? :D

They would have to pay me to play this. Saw a friend play this... whats the word for anti-wow?

Being an up-and-coming indie game developer, I gotta admit that this isnt really worth it for 4.99.

well...that makes my decision easy. Thanks guys
Let's hope the next DOOM installment is why this one was a let down.(not enough time put in it)

The texture pop in is horrible. The game ran like sh*t. The game even if you stood still so the textures could load looked low quality and crappy. The game play is on rails. The environments they put you in are uninspiring. The guns in the game were boring. The driving was ok.

I bit, thanks for the heads up. $5 is my spending limit for buying games I probably won't like but want to try out... just to see if its as bad as everybody is crying about.

Yes rage is worse IMO. Crazy I know.

Blame Tim Willits. I'm sure Zenimax is partially responsible as well.

LOL I just checked on newegg.ca and the game is 59,99$, gotta love being in Canada

lol, do report back for fun.
EDIT: I was just looking for DOOM 4 info and found THIS

Rage was the first game in a long time that I actually felt compelled to finish. This was on the 360 mind you, and I've never experienced the PC version. I knew while playing it that it was very derivative of a couple similar titles (Fallout 3 and upwards, Borderlands, etc.) but it was still engaging enough to make me see it through - and I'm a chronic game-quitter. For reference, the last game (PC or otherwise) that I finished was GTA:VC on PC.

yea RedTalon19 put up a report it will be good to read.

ps charge $5 for your review and you are money ahead :)

Yes. Although playing this game put me on the brink of RAGE, I actually almost went for 100% achievements - something I almost never do.

I thought it was worth playing. The engine/graphics are fantastic actually. Plot/gameplay, meh. It had some potential. This game is a perfect example of so many game devs being basically forced to build their games around console ports vs PC to stay alive with sales.

I was about to bite, and then I remembered that the ending sucks terrible ass and was phoned in, sloughed off, or whatever excuse we should use for something like that
