Radiator cleaning.

Well it's that time finally after several years in place to upgrade my setup.

Since Radiator and Block tech has not really changed much in the last 5 years (lets face it the laws of thermal dynamics don't change) I need to do some cleaning. I have to admit I've not flushed my system in 2-3 years. Just added to as needed. I've been using Premo-Chill for coolant and it's worked out good so far. I've lost no hardware over the 2 OH FUDGE moments since I've started using it.

Right now I am considering a diluted solution of car radiator cleaner (peak) and running threw the loop for an hour or two. My main goal is to clean out the radiator as everything else I can take apart and clean by hand.

During the clean I was going to have it just my pump, the radiators and old reservoir I don't use anymore. On the re-build I'll be using all new pipes and fittings.

Anyone else have experience with this or other suggestions.

I just remove my pieces and clean them by hand. Since youre tearing down your system, I recommend just that.

Radiators, I simply flush out with boiling distilled water and let them cool followed by rinses of clean room temperature distilled.

I'm not too sure I'd want car radiator cleaner running through my pump or radiator.

Pump diluted distilled vinegar with distilled water. Clean out between the fins (where dust tends to compress for me). I would not use boiling, but that's just because I would worry about the temp flux causing damage to possible weak solder points.Rinse a few times. I just drain and refill everytime I upgrade something in my loop which is typically more than every 2 years.

I wouldn't flush with the car stuff either unless you just use it on the radiator. Take apart the blocks, change out the tubing, and flush the rad with hot water. Check your old fluid for floaties and try to visually inspect the rad for any corrosion, which can happen if you don't change fluids for long periods of time. If you see any signs of corrosion throw that old rad out and get a new one.
