Hi,

I am about to go over to PCI-e. The board, memory and processor are all waiting to be installed at least.

I purchased a Connect3D X800 XTPE from Ebuyer UK which was advertised wrongly and was in actual fact a standard X800 XT.

Anyway, I have been looking to see if any of the PCI-e X800 XT's (these are all I can find of the X800 at the moment in the UK) and am trying to see which brands are actually using 1.6ns memory.

I did see one review of the Sapphire which said it had 1.6ns memory but all the other brands I have found reviews on state that the memory is 2.0ns. Another review of the Sapphire said it was 2.0ns.

Are there any of the branded cards which are actually available in 1.6ns memory for sure?

Also, should I wait for the 6800Ultra to go PCI-e or not get the X800 XT and wait (probably forever) for the X800 XTPE?

I currently have a X800 XT AGP card and am pretty happy with that as it meets XTPE spec when overclocked.

Any info greatly appreciated.

There is no XT-PE for PCI-e. However, the regular XT is still quite fast and usually overclockable to PE or near-PE speeds (which you have discovered). AFAIK, the XTs use GC16 RAM. Personally I'd keep the card as there is not likely to be a faster PCI-e card for quite some time.
 
Thank for your reply but you are wrong.

The XTPE's are coming out in PCI-e, check out some of the sites that are advertising them. Connect3D advertises it on their site. The PCI-e card I bought from Ebuyer UK was advertised as one also and was priced as an XTPE but is a site error and still the same. Ebuyer know this but havent changed their advertising, what a CON!

All the PCI-e XT card reviews I have looked at on the web seem to run 2.0ns memory (except one review of the Sapphire! probably wrong). Even the Connect3D PCI-e card I purchased above and then had to return ran 2.0ns.

The card in my rig right now is a Connect3D X800 XT AGP card and that has 1.6ns memory but surely there must be a PCI-e XT brand which uses 1.6ns.

The fact remains, I haven't seen an XT-PE for PCI-e as available yet, so for all purposes it doesn't currently exist. The fact I barely got my hands on an AGP part tells me all I need to know about availability. My point therefore remains valid, as there is little reason to be optimistic in making the choice to wait in order to switch cards. I should also say, your overclocking limit and relative performance will probably not be much higher with a full-blooded XT-PE.

I have heard word of the GC20 RAM floating around, specifically for the Asus PCI-e part, although there is some GC16 around as well. Many of the earlier XT cards had the GC16 RAM, although it seems now that GC20 is becoming more popular. Although to be fair, there is not much difference between them, as we've seen with X800 Pro overclocking. Of course GC16 is preferable. ;)
 
I agree with you.

I wouldnt really bother overclocking the X800 XT PCI-e anyway if it does come with 2.0ns memory.
I've just been looking at 6800GT PCI-e and the same thing really. These are as hard to find as well.

If Ebuyer had'nt screwed my order with the card not being a XTPE PCI-e I wouldnt have purchased the ASUS P5AD2 Premium, P4 3.6Gzh and 2 x 512Mb Corsair DDR2 Pro 675Mhz modules.
The video card issue is now holding my build up big time.

My current system is as good as the new one in real terms to be honest so I sont expect much gain from the new setup. I'm just one of those poeple who has to get the top end kit all the time with frequent upgrades. I am MAD but hey, it put's a smile on my face!

yah, im pretty sure most x800xt pci-e come with 2.0ns memory. because i have the ati radon brand and my memory will only reach 522 on ati tool. kind of disapointing. but still its pretty damn fast at stock 500/500 speeds.
 
I see both of you in the last couple of posts have the X800 XT PCI-e. I'm not bothered about o/c'ing the XT to be honest. Have you compared the XT to a 6800GT. It does appear that the GT overclocks easilty to Ultra speeds and then beats the X800 down.

If I could find a GT I'd probably go for that but I am on the edge of buying a X800 off of eBay!

What are your max overclocks on your PCI-e XT's please.

Well guys, to be a X800XT-PE the memory MUST be 1.6ns! even for the "normal" (calling normal to a BEAST!!!) :D X800XT requires 1.6ns. Im not saying that isnt one out there but take a look at this:http://www.samsung.com/Products/Sem.../GDDR3SDRAM/256Mbit/K4J55323QF/K4J55323QF.htm
2.0ns reaches a theoretical max of 1000mbps, the stock speed of a XT but the XT´s always reach higher than this!
So take your own conclusions. hope ive helped.

Well, overclocking the XT is no big deal. I have a X800XT AGP running at XTPE speed and it has a bit more in it as well.

I know that the AGP XT's use 1.6ns memory. I have one dont forget!!

My original post was to find out if any brands of the X800 XT PCI-e use 1.6ns. They all seem to run at 2.0ns from what I can gather. Yep, the memory is on its limit with 2.0ns memory as per the AGP X800 Pro NonVIVO's.

I have a X800XT AGP running at XTPE speed as well, as a matter of fact ive got it today along with a samsung 172x, MSI K8N NEO and a A64 3000+ i havent more time today ( i work in a computer shop in portugal and im still at work guess why :D :D :D , you have the same time there as i do here Chris, imagine: i get of work at 19.00!!! im still here! lol :D )
Nvidia and ATI had problems getting memory chips, i believe there were problems in the factories due to floods or something like that and probably they only could lay their hands on 2.0ns but anyway X800XT with 2.0ns... weird!

My guess is that the X800 XT PE PCI-E is actually the R480. As soon as that damn Abit AX8 is available, I'll buy a regular XT PCI-E, because I want to play HL2 as soon as I can.

Plus, the PE speeds don't offer much extra anyway; in most cases it only gives a boost of about 5-7fps.

Since I'm pairing the X800 XT with an FX55, I'm not too worried. Not like I can tell the difference between 150 and 156 frames anyway. :p
