I took out the y-connecter that came with my radeon and stuck a molex from the psu directly into it...was wondering if that was ok or not.

uhh there's only one way to attach a y-splitter; the molex on the PSU is female so the male end of the splitter is the only one that it can connect to. You take the other end and plug it into the video card.

GVX i know how to plug a male into a female i mean come on...my question was is it ok to take the y splitter out of the vid card and connect a molex from the psu straight into it...i wanted to be sure since the card came with the y splitter in it.

Yea, it's fine. They just give you the Y connector in case you're out of power supply cables.

Now I gotcha.

I think it's actually best not to use a y-splitter at all because they have a high failure rate and are often a common problem when dealin with power issues.
