Radeon Mobility HD4250

I need a driver update for this card, and I can't seem to find a reliable one. The last one I tried, messed everything up, so I had to rollback. I've never had a problem finding drivers in all the 10years of Building Computers, but this one is frustrating me. I am stuck using this laptop to play WoW on until I get my PC back from the Studio where my band is recording our Album. And Since the new 5.2 patch came out for WoW on tuesday, I have been getting messed up frame-rates, which normally I can play it just fine at 30-40 FPS. So can anyone help me find a reliable, working Driver for teh Radeon Mobility HD4250. It would be greatly appreciated. THanks

If you can tell us what driver you're running currently, as well as the one you last tried that caused you problems, that would be a lot of help to us Also what your definition of "messed everything up" is, and what your CCC Graphics Settings are (or Gaming Settings, however it's worded in there).

If 5.2 just came out before any new Radeon drivers have, then it might be a more widespread issue, be it across the entire AMD series of GPUs, just the 4000-series, or just motherboard-integrated graphics. So you might need to sit tight while AMD sorts it and rolls out a Beta.

Assuming "messed everything up" is in reference to WoW...
Mind you, I haven't played WoW since Burning Crusade, so these are guesses:
- With your current drivers, WoW is for some reason still running in DX9 mode, but when you update it then switched to DX11. As such, the IGP just isn't up to the task of handling the additional graphics improvements and causes really low performance

- You have your CCC graphics configured to a more performance-oriented scheme and the new drivers are setting everything to Default which is a balanced config, whereby causing performance to drop.

- I'm mistaken, you're not a tard and have checked all of those things, in which case it really is just a "bad driver" issue and you need to find an older version before whatever code change caused this.

Driver version is 8.712.2.1000.

And I can't remember what the last one i tried was, it was last year sometime, and i haven't had a problem that made me think i needed to update since then. I don't use this laptop for gaming much so it didnt matter to me if they were up to date, but since my main Rig is being used at my bands studio for recording our album, I have had to use my Laptop for playing WoW while at home.

And by "Messed Everything Up" I mean, it didn't do anything, i removed the old drivers, installed the new ones, and they didn't work, my system acted like there was no GPU installed at all and was stuck at 800x600 resolution with no options for other resolutions, etc etc.

Like I said previously. I've been building PC's for about 10years now, as well as repairing them and modding them etc etc, and I've installed countless drivers for countless components, but I've never had a problem i couldn't fix before until now. I think one of the biggest problems is that this GPU is out of date, so there's not a lot of support for it, and It apparently didnt like the nest drivers that were out around this same time last year. But I managed to find a set of drivers that the AMD site said was for this GPU (which it said that last time too lol) so I am gonna try again, worse case scenario, the same thing happens and I have to roll back again.

But in the mean time, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

And as I said, I never had any problem running WoW on Low-Medium settings until the patch came out the other day. So as was stated, it could take some time for some fixes to be found if thats the case, and it just doesn't play well with AMD Mobility Cards or something, or it could be a more widespread issue, so We will shall see.

I just got the newest drivers to work. I figured out something that I didnt notice before. It wasn't the drivers that were giving me an issue, it was Toshiba Drive Utility app that was the problem, and apparently other people with this laptop had the same problem recently, but when I googled about it last year, the problem wasn't as well know i guess, so that's why I didnt hear anything about it. But It's fixed now, and so hopefully this will help with some of the issues I've been having with WoW.

and WoW seem to be running better now, i was able to turn AA and AF back on as well as turn my Texture Quality back to High and View Distance back to High. and everything else back to the Low and Medium Area, except shadows, for some reason this Card has never liked shadows on really any game except for HL2 and CS:S, that's the only game that lets me turn shadows on high without dropping my Frame-rates below 20FPS.

can't believe it was something so simple to fix my drive issues, and it was staring me in the face this whole time. I've had nothing but problems with that Driver Assist utility, but for some reason at the time last year I didn't even think about it causing issues with the GPU drivers. I guess it just goes to show that no matter how long you've been working on Computers, sometimes things slip past you.

EDIT - I take that back, WoW is still messed up, it was just a fluke, I just happened to be in area that wasn't hard on the GPU. When inside small rooms, the Frame-rates are smooth but when out in the world, they drop significantly. I want my PC back soooo bad. But our album is more important then WoW lol

but from what i just read, a lot of people are having issues. People are losing around 50 FPS from what they normally run at before the patch i.e people who normally got 80 FPS constant are dropping to Below 30 FPS

Also turn down your water quality. That can make a difference.

What I like to do when troubleshooting wow performance is testing different possible bottlenecks and seeing what effect they have on my fps. For example, if I turn my AA from 4x to 8x and fps doesn't take any hit, then I know my video card is not an issue. Another example, if I turn my view distance down from ultra to high and notice an fps gain, then I know there might be a possible cpu/memory bottleneck.

Another thing to check is ui addons. I use quite a few for my interface and they take a major toll. They are worth the load though so I keep them. If I am doing serious pvp I will usually turn off auctioneer or whatever because it isn't needed.

But yea, it'll take some playing around with. Hope that helps some.

never thought about Add-ons affecting FPS. That makes sense tho now that i think about it. I use Atlas, Recount, HealBot, Gathermate 2, Gathermate 2 data, Bagnon, TomTom. I think that's it. So I will try disabling them and see what happens.

Yea pretty much all of those have a very heavy footprint.
Wait till you see the difference in your load times with them disabled.
Use the bare minimum and make sure you keep them updated.
