Scores P3421 on 3dmark11, a 6850 scores ~3600.

It is hard to see but there is a dual BIOS switch next to the Crossfire connector. The guy says he had 2 bios, one at 1Ghz and the other at 1.1Ghz but pointed out that it is an engineering sample and clocks may actually be lower for retail cards.

I don't read Chinese, so is there any word on the thermals and the possibility of a fanless version?

And no, he didn't mention anything about temperatures nor other upcoming models. This is just an engineering sample that he got his hands on and ran a few quick tests with.
 
128bit memory interface is a big let down on this particular card but it is a solid low end card.
 
That card looks very plain and simple, Lacking solder points. Too bad I just got a 6770.

The x770 cards are always great bang for the buck.

It is to bad about the 128 bit.
 
Specs and pricing are spot on for the market segment its intended to fill IMHO. Have you forgotten that the HD5770 launched at $159?. This card performs nearly as well as last generation's higher tier card (6850), and has double the ram while costing $149. And that's just the launch price, remember how low the 5770 came down to once Nvidia released the GTX550 in direct competition with it.

If you want a wider memory bus the 78xx series cards are for you.
 
not looking that good to me. I have already seen lots of 6850 deals for $120AR or so bundled with games. I'm expecting at least a few $100 or less deals coming up soon.

The 5770 released performing on average as fast or faster then a 4870. That was AMD's fatest single GPU card for that gen originally.

This 7770 is not the same performance as a 6970, by what you are assuming. That is a step down from what the 5770 succeeding in doing performance verse previous last gen top tier card. If the 7770 is only replacing the 6850 at a higher price point and about the same performance there is nothing major about the card in my opinion.

I think the HD7770 will OC extremely well.
 
Heh, it's funny, I remember people saying the EXACT same thing about the 5770 when it launched, and its street price matched some of the discounted 4870's at the time. But that always happens, the older cards go down in price, their performance equivalent replacements cost the same at launch, and their market segment replacements launch at or near the same price the older card launched at.

Edit: My memory differs from Banzai's in that the 5770 was outperformed most of the time by the 4870. People complained then about why AMD would price the 5770 where 4870's were when they weren't an upgrade.
 
I've had a special place in my heart for the x770s since the 4770 came out kicking so much ass at its price point.
 
Im really hoping the 7670/50 comes in under $100 and is low profile. I don't care about the fan, just something to replace the 4550 for cheap.

Not too sure about this, but there's a good chance that everything below the 77xx cards is going to be a rebadged 40nm gpu.
 
Are you going to continue the tradition and buy 2 of the 7770's? :p


Currently planning on buying the best $300 28nm GPU I can find in the next 6 months and water cool it.

I'm sure 2xHD770 will perform well but by the time I buy 2 water blocks and choke up my loop I lose out on money on water blocks and hinder my water cooling loop with 2 water blocks rather than just buying a great single $300 video card and 1 water block.

I'm pretty sure that all the 28nm gpu's from AMD are going to be GCN or a derivative of it, so yes, it's probably GCN.

I have seen conflicting info on this. Some say GCN, some say only 79xx is GCN and the lower models are just previous gen architecture at 28nm.

It's a let-down why?

The card it succeeds (HD6770) has the same interface.

If you want 256-bit at that price-point, think HD6850 *or* HD6790 after the launch of HD7770 - while prices are starting to drop now, they aren't done dropping yet. (HD6790 is between $20/$30USD above HD6770, with HD6850 another $20USD higher than HD6790.)

HD6770 *today* is actually at the $100USD price point retail - which is expected.

I thought we had grown beyond this type of thinking, I guess not.

Perhaps it hasn't sunk in yet that you can obtain whatever the target bandwidth is in two ways, wide bus, slower memory, narrower bus, faster memory. Typically, narrower bus is cheaper + high memory can yield very high bandwidths, its all about the memory speed at that point.

7970 and 7950 has been achieving incredibly high memory clock speeds, if you notice.

no its VLIW4 architecture.. only the 7900 series for now is GCN. 7700 through the 7800 series is confirmed VLIW4, no ones really sure on what the plans are for the 7600 and lower series. if they end up being rebadged 40nm or 28nm VLIW4 architecture as well.

oops meant the 7870/90 my bad. I knew the higher ones were replacing the 69xx.

Why go for the equiv? that would be a waste imo unless u don't care about gaming performance and want to save power. I'd go minimum 7950 or possibly 7890 when it does come out.

My big concern is that if the 7870 is targeted at at the 6950, but is priced at $299, I can't see it being worth it.

I mean, based on the prices we have seen so far and internet rumors we end up with pricing like this:
7970: $550
7950: $450
7950 1.5gb: Estimate is $400
7890: Estimate is $350
7870: Estimate is $300
7850: Estimate is $250

Then again, we know that AMD is only pricing the 7970 and 7950 at $550 and $450 because they can, there is nothing to compete. There are however options to compete with a 7870 so maybe these pricing estimates won't hold true.
