The 4870 512MB should end up faster in almost all benchmarks.

It's probably pretty useless with the 256-bit memory bus. I'd definitely like to see some benchmarks though.

It's not the bus width that's the biggest limitation, it's the slow clock speed of GDDR3. The HD4870's with GDDR5 are on a 256-bit bus and can be OC'ed to no end.

1GB won't help the HD4850, however it would really really aid the HD4870 and the X2 (1GB per GPU).
