Ey Wsup guys?

For christmas, one of my gifts was an ATI Radeon 9600, i installed the card and loaded the newest drivers released by ATI and no matter what game im playing, after a few minutes of gameplay, my comp locks up. No error message, it just locks up.
I tried removing the drivers with an ATI Driver Cleaner, downloading the drivers from a diff location and reinstalling them but nothing. I disabled my Yzdock, my auto-hide start menu, disabling my Dual Monitors, and checked for any settings that may be causing this problem, but nothing relates. I searched forums and i googled it but nothing...So I'm trying my fav. forum...

>So can nebody help me with this...I got so many games and wanna play em and o yea i reinstalled them too...

Thanx,
~Trinic

~Trinic

im restarting to install the 3.7 cats now...but my main primary gaming card is ofcourse the radeon...should i still post at rage3d?

~Trinic

rage 3d . net is like THE place for ATi crazyness and you might get some different ideas from there then you would have from here ... just a suggestion ... goodluck with the 3.7s

yea guys not much success with the 3.7's....installed em after removing the 3.10's but when i was rebooting, bsod like crazi before i even got passed the windows xp loading...
had to go into safe mode and remove drivers, and reinstall 3.10's....
restarted and now im ok...
gfx card problem is still the same,
nemore suggestions while im here...im prolly gonna go post at rage neway...
keep em coming neway,
~Trinic

any chanse of you RMA ing it ?
I mean this problem is pretty weird ... try other games if you can at max settings

Thank you for having this problem. This is the fourth person that I know of so far (including myself) that has had this exact problem. And let me guess, all the games it freezes in are DirectX games (as opposed to opengl). It started randomly (no driver changes or anything) a couple weeks ago. Nothing so far has fixed it. Really weird problem.

what version of direct x 9 do you have installed? a or b ?

Two things to check:
#1: What is your power supply? Your system may not be getting enough juice.
#2: Check that the hsf assembly is securely attached to the card and that the fan is functioning. Something overheating could also cause your problems.

yea i have directx 9b...i guess i should try a if u think that might change something...
yea goku it started it started out of nowhere, well the day after i installed my card...
please help?
i dun wanna have to take a magnet to this card....

What's a magnet gonna do?

nah bro i highly doubt it...
i had 256 before christmas and i got a new 512 stik for xmas bringing me up to 768 mb...
really doubt it bro...
~Trinic

I said take a magnet to it, messing around meaning if i take a magnet to it i fry the card...meaning that it would be useless...

Im not literally gonna do that...
~Trinic

What graphics card did you have before this. If it was a nvidia then you might want to think about reformating your drive to get rid of all the nvidia drivers.

RAM errors will blue screen. This is with the card. I heard of this problem but not with brand new cards. RMA it if I were you.

wut do u mean RMA it...ive heard of it but dont know wut it is....

and

yea it was an nvidia....but the thing is that i formatted on xmas day after installing the card...heh...

well dx9a should be on your ATi cd if you bought the card before dx9b came out ....

RMA = return to the manufacturer for a replace

...have you run Memtest86 on your new memory yet....?? I've had crashes just like you describe that were caused by flaky RAM.

How does the Radeon work in another system? Can you fully isolate the problem to the card, by duplicating the failure in another system with the video card in question....???

FWIW - B.B.S.

He said he added a 512 stick of ram to his memory. Could this be confilicting with the existing 256 stick he had. Maybe try popping out the old ram and see how it acts with the new 512.

Run Memtest86. My new computer was haveing problems and I thought it was the graphics card. It was my memory. It's more than worth it to rule out the possiblility.

o well i havent tried the card in another machine, if the memtest86 is successful then i will...
ill let u kno bout my memtest results...

i'm surprised this hasn't been moved :D

read my post in response to his problem, but before you do that; try this:

right-click on My Computer \ Properties \ Device Manager \ Display Adapters

and make sure the nVidia card is gone.

<EDIT> i'll just copy paste the link stuff in here. i hate clicking on links outside of the thread too...

first, go to www.windowsupdate.com (it'll redirect you) and see if there are any updates;

then, see if you need any driver updates (post if you need help on this one).

next, you'll need your Win CD for this step:
boot into Windows and go Start \ Run: "SFC" (w/o the "")
see if anythin suspicious pops up;

next, boot into DOS and type scanreg/fix -- this might take a while.

next, Start \ Program Files \ Accessories \ System Tools \ Scandisk
run it Standard w/ Automatic Fix Errors on (make sure nothing else is running or it won't finish...)

next, run a Virus Scan (google for AVG and download the free edition if you don't have an up-to-date virus scanner; and make sure after d/ling AVG Free Edition you use its update utiltiy located in the Control Panel of it so that it updates to its current database)

next, run a Spybot S&D Scan -- don't know what this amazing program is? google it. (make sure you update this one too, just run its update utility after d/ling it)

hopefully that'll solve your problems; if not, you might just need to kill windows and start over by reformatting; it really shouldn't be anything hardware related (unless something in the case has shifted and is shorting out your mobo randomly...)

EDIT: Good Luck.

</EDIT>

This is related to hardware so i dun think itll get moved...
but referring to the memtest86, i ran it and there where no errors at all dealing with my RAM...
Stil gonna try the post above this one to see if ne of those fix my problem...
~Trinic

1. memtest86 did not find ne errors with my ram...
2. yes all nvidia display adapters are gone...
3. i have all winupdates n still have the freezing...
4. nothing suspicious pops up when i run sfc...
5. ive ran seek n destroy before and did again but still freezing...
6. avg and norton fing nothing...

Ill run scanreg and scandisk now, but really doubt this'll fix my problem...
and i remember telling that ive had this problem since i put the card in christmas, which isnt tru now that i think about it

the freezing occurs like 4 minutes into playing, for example:
Playing need for speed underground, i can barely get through one race without it freezing, when previously, after xmas, i went from race 1 through 11 w.o a freeze...so this is something that sorda jus happened out of nowhere...

no new hardware was installed causing this prob when it occured?¿
Help?!

~Trinic

wow, i'm sorry those didn't help you..geeze, well post back after you've tried the scanreg and scandisk things, i really hope those do the trick for you...

maybe it's time to RMA the card?

I'd still make every effort to try the card in another system to see if the problem follows the card. If it does, it's RMA time. Bam. Done. If it doesn't, given what you've tried, it may be time to reformat.

Substituting hardware is sometimes the only way to know for sure where the problem is......IMHO.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

scandisk didnt work...scanreg, nope...
but bro this computer is newly reformatted on xmas day...i did everything right, im sure of it...
i kno a thing or two about computers n ive formatted a million times, and my box is running beautifully...

ill try it on another machine in a lil bit...this sux tho, it started out of nowhere,
~Trinic

I really appreciate ur help tho...this is why i love hardforums over that crappy genmay...

Well......since the format is fresh, and you've paid attention to getting the old drivers out and the right ones in, it sounds like you've done everything I'd have done, software and driver wise. My magic 8-ball says you may have a flaky card.

Like I said, if you plug it into another system and it hangs again, you know for sure.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

lol ur magic eightball says i have a flaky card?
alright thanx bro...
imma try that in a minute...i jus got repeated a chkdsk...so lemme try playing the game...
n then ill put it in my other machine

~Trinic

dunno if it'll work but it solved some problems for me. have you tried turning fast write on/off i'm pretty sure you can do it in both the bios and driver settings. also check you got agp set to 8x
