Hi guys...

i was have a quick blast on Far Cry today...when i noticed i was getting some artifacts..by that i mean "snow".

Now this has never happened before, the card is not overclocked and is running totally stock...anyway...i quit out the game and do a right clicl properties on the desktop and then advanced...to check what the temp is being reported as by the ATI control panel...

107*C :eek: :confused:

what the hell?!!? thats pretty frickin high no?
 
Yes, that's very high. According to the ATI control panel, the temp of my stock 9800 XT was about 71 C. You may have to check if the fan on the vga heatsink is spinning; if it is, you may have to take the heatsink off, clean it and the core, apply therman past to the core, and re-attach the heatsink.
 
well thats what i thought...but the fan is still spinning away...looks like I am going to have to remove the HSF and see whats going on...either that or RMA it...does anyone know if Sapphire does ARMA?
 
I think i have "fixed" it...

Cleaned off the heatsink with the hoover and its now idling at around 71*C which was what it used to...cheers dudes...

With the hoover??? What exactly did you do with that :eek:
 
well yeha...i had run out of ideas as i had checked that the fan was spinning etc...so i pulled out the card to see if the heatsink was on properly and stuff...and noticed that the channels around the fan were pretty clogged with dust...so even with the fan spinning the heatsink was getting little or no air flow over it...

i tried to blow it out using lung power but that only go the loose bits out...some of it was still there blocking channels...so i got the vacuum cleaner out and basically just put the nozzle where the fan is...this cleaned away the rest of the blockages...put the card back in my machine and it was back to normal...
