Radeon 9800Pro overclocking

I notice that when I overclock my video card and play games (after I've tested to see how far it'll go before artifacting) I play games and all is well.

The room temp may get a bit warm but otherwise the system isn't reporting any extreme temps.

So instead of the video card artifacting as the system warms from playing the game(s), after a few hours of gameplay (not always) the system will crash (in BF2 at least) with one of my screens turning blue and a horrible high pitched screaching sound being played through the speakers.

I obviously turn off the system and back on and all is well again but it's annoying and I find it's wierd that instead of the game artifacting, it crashes in this really odd manner. I can't remember if this happens in other games I play but IIRC it does.

IRQs or your psu perhaps?

Antec True 480. I have my CPU overclocked and while that may seem like the culprit, I've got FAH running on it with 100% utilization (Including HT) for weeks on end with the system still running. The 5V rail is 5V and the 12V rail is by the looks of the analog meter, 12V...

I could be wrong but FAH does nothing to check if the CPU calculations are correct. So, I doubt that has anything to do with this. Plus, the types of calculations done that cause your computer to crash could very well be different than what FAH makes. You need to watch the meter while it crashes to see if that's the culprit as well.

Meter like temps? You're correct in that FAH doesn't exactly check to see if the CPU calculations are correct but it a way it does, if the system is overclocked and unstable, FAH will/may end the WU early. I was able to prove that the work unit wasn't meant to be done early when I happened to have copied that unit to another computer with out running it, so I ran the WU on the second computer and 'lo and behold, it completed. Thats when I knew I needed more voltage to the CPU as it wasn't getting the default 1.525v but more like 1.47v instead so I raised it to the 1.6v setting in the bios which reads around 1.55/1.525.

Anyways I've run prime95 for IIRC 24hours and it was fine (came back after work and the room was quite toasty, nonetheless it was running fine).

No, I meant watch your voltmeter to see if your psu gets unstable before it shuts down. That would point to your psu. Otherwise if you have a good psu laying about... hook it up and see if that fixes your problem.

I tried doing that but I either wasn't playing long enough or having the case door off change the cooling temps of the video card...
