Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb issues

I'm having troubles with a friends graphics card. It's a Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb, before having installed the ATI drivers, (I guess I'm just using XP ones before?) 3D sorta works. Textures are missing, everything basically looks like crap, when I play Oblivion almost half the screen is one solid color.

After I install the drivers, I can't run any 3D. I can't benchmark, with 3DMark2001, In DxDiag, the video memory becomes n/a rather than 128.0mb.

I've also tried installing the Omega Drivers.

So, what could be the problem here?
Can this be fixed?
 
I'm going to guess here that the windows drivers are causing all the problems. Do not let windows try to find drivers for your card. I would use driver cleaner to mop up the mess of drivers you have installed then after reboot cancel the "window has found new hardware" bit. then reinstall the ati drivers.
 
I beleive I know the problem.. Try disabling "Alternate Pixel center" in your ATI Catalyst Control Center API specific.

QFT If a clean driver install doesn't work I'd put it in another system and try it. Then you'll know if it's a paper weight or not.
 
I have no idea if I used Driver Cleaner properly, I'ma just install Windows on a spare 6gb HDD I have, and see if it works then.
 
What videocard were you using before that? I'm asking because basicly all you have to do in driver cleaner is select the brand of videocard you have installed drivers for and clean. If you had an nvidia card before that for example just select Nvidia and then clean, dont select nvidia sound though, wrong one. same thing with ati drivers, just select ati then clean. After that reboot, install drivers for 9800 and then reboot again. You should be fine, unless you got a paperweight ;)
