radeon 9700 issues; help plz

ive had a radeon 9700 pro for some time now, not ever overclocked agp8x (though 4x and 8x dont make much of a diffrence) its the old normal 128mb version, i got it right before the release of the radeon 9800 pro cards, before i had a geforce4 ti4600 and my performance was better, any ideas. i have all the latest catalyst drivers from ati and everything i run it without aa or antisubtropic filtering on and i still have always gotten shitty performance compaired to the 4600 i useto have, the 9700 pro's got better reviews then the geforce 4 line, so why does this card suck so bad for me?

YOu should just do a clean format install the card fresh.

Also you system maybe the culprit. Running kt133 mobo + sdram = crap.

Also maybe you need to download VIA Mofo crappola drivers
 
I don't think a format is needed but maybe you need to use driver cleaner to make sure that you have a clean install of video drivers.

Although it is always nice to have a nice fresh system after a format. :)
 
you are very cpu limited(and mobo limited). just an example here. i have a 950mhz thunderbird in my house, and i decded to put it in my a7n8x just to see how far i could push it. i got it up to 1.12ghz, and tried to run far cry. now, on a kt133 with 512 pc133 and a radeon 9600 pro, i can barely run at 1024x768 with mostly low settings. when i put the thunderbird in this system with a gig of pc3200, 6800GT, and an nforce2 ultra, i can run it on all very high settings, at 1280x1024, and only loose about 20-30 fps(a little more when there is really dense foliage) in far cry compared to my barton at 2.3ghz.

just as a reference, its not the video card. with my barton system and the 9600, i could run 1280x1024 med/high settings very playable

that says alot about how chipsets CAN make a difference. just some food for thought :)
 
I have both a Ti 4600 and a Radeon 9700 non pro. The 9700 is definitely faster, especially when you crank the aa/af.
 
im going to be upgrading to an athlon 64 3400+ soon so the shit sdram i have in my puter as of now will be gone and replaced by ither Pqi pc3200 1gb, cl 2-2-2-5, or OCZ pc3200 EL memory, motherboard will be replaced by a gigabyte nforce3 mo-bo, currently sitting behind my guitar case in my room heh. i formatted not too long ago and still have the same problem, it didnt help at all so i guess from what im thinking is my agp slot is beginning to go, thats probably why it suxorz, i just updated catalyst drivers from ati's website yesturday and am still getting slow benchmarks n' such, so i think im possibly going to be looking into buying a new x800 or a geforce 6800 probably after xmas or somethin, or just wait for a kixors ass sale durring xmas and pick it up then.
