I have a Radeon 9500 pro 128mb card and I was wondering if I should enable fast write on the card. I know on my old 9000 pro that fastwrite was horrible, but I heard on newer day cards fast write is actually pretty good.

Also, what does fast write do? Like what is the whole concept behind it?

Fast writes: from what I've read, it improves the AGP card's read performance (not write performance) by allowing it to directly access data instead of going through system memory.

Most motherboards don't implement fast writes properly. However, let your card test it, reboot the system, and see if it worked or not. If it doesn't, the Catalyst Control Panel defaults it to off anyways.

Agreed. I have no problems with fastwrites enabled on my A7N8X and my 9800 Pro. However, I get better performance with them off. Test and see.

Edited to clarify what I was trying to say... Havent had my 576th cup of coffee yet. :p

That could be the case RAutrey. I said most motherboards implement it poorly or wrong, but my IC7-G as far as I can tell works with it.

However, some games whine about it, like Call of Duty, which kept crashing because Fast Writes were enabled, so I just keep it off. It makes maybe 1% difference or none at all anyways.
