Radeon 9100 vs GeForce4 Ti 4200

most games the 4200, sometimes the 9100. if you have a specific game in mind go look up the benchmarks
 
Definitely 4200. I would save some money and get the 9600XT though :) . 5700 would be good choice too

Ya holy crap.. He must have a really fast processor .. My Ti4600 only does about 12k .. Stock speeds that is. Then again..im only on an Xp 2000+
 
Does anyone have any evidence backing up their claims?

The 8500 is a little slower than a 4600, and the 9100 is a little slower than the 9100. But the 4200 is slower than the 4400 and 4600, and at stock speeds only has 3/5th the memory bandwidth. That's gotta hurt it some.

Here are some generic synthetic default benchmarks with the Radeon 9100 and 8500, and the Geforce 4 Ti 4600.

Now I don't know what the Ti 4200 would get in 3DMark2000 and 3DMark2001 when paired with an Athlon XP 2100+, but if any of you have that combination, you can post your scores here.

wrong, the 8500 is a little slower than the Ti500 on most benchmarks while holding its own on others.

The 8500/9100 are in competition with the Geforce 3 line and are way out classed by the GF4 Ti series.

The 8500 has matured into a great card with newer Catalyst releases, way better than how it initially performed but still can't compare to a 4Ti4XXX.
 
The 8500 with newer drivers is comparable to a 4200/4400. the 9100 uses a slower core and memory, which makes a difference.

As for proof, I had a 9100 and a 4200. My 9100 scored about 5500 on 3dmark 2001, my 4200 scored about 6700 on the same system.

In games I honestly could not tell the difference, it was marginal, but it was there. Given the prices are comparable, I'd get the 4200.
