So, we all know that the F@H client for Radeons sucks. I just got a 7970 and it doesn't get much more PPD than my old unlocked 6950. (My new SnB-E moves along pretty quick though)

SO, are there other (useful, ie not bitcoin) computing projects that can make good use of the new architecture in the 7970? I'd be interested to see what else is out there that can make good use of this thing.

POEM@Home works with it. Collatz conjecture, pretty much all of the BOINC projects that use AMD gpus.

Yep there are lots of BOINC based projects that make great use of AMD GPUs. POEM@home is a good project and does protien research like f@h. Other projects you could look at are Collatz Conjecture, MilkyWay@Home, PrimeGrid, and the RC5-72 crypto challenge (doesnt use the BOINC platform).

If we can help or if you have any questions let us know. Happy crunching!

does primegrid finally support AMD cards now? i thought it was cuda only(been a long ass time since i've run it).

Cool, looks like there is plenty of stuff out there. I will definitely get something going this weekend.

Here is GPUGRID's "sister" project, donateathome.org.

Seems like it will be used to pay for fellowships.

Skips the research part etirely and pays researchers directly to continue their research.

Not sure what to make of it...

Wow.. You bit-coin for the university to pay for research, instead of doing the research for them.

Yeah... Sort of feels weird, but I guess it comes out to the same in the end...

I've bitcoin mined for myself and made a good enough profit from it, but this just feels odd.

If f@h put all of their ATI GPUs to work mining they might pull in $100k a month. The stats page says there are 20k active ATI clients and if 25% of those were 200 MHash/s level units there's your income.
