Hey guys I don't think I can justify spending an extra 350 dollars for very minimum upgrade from a 6950 to a 6970, is it worth crossfiring the 6950, is there a lot of stability? Or should I just wait for the next batch of cards to be released?

a 6950 is dam near a 6970 unlock the shadrer and oc and you got a 6950. I just xfired 2 6950 and so for i fell kinda let down. some games it rocks others its slower then 1 6950 and so far in ever game if my fps drop below 45 it just starts felling like it running really slow like maby 20ish fps. in metro 2033 its very noticeable when ever it drops below about 45ish fps. now if i turn xfier off and run one card it fells smother at low 30s vs 45 with xfier. now when its over 50 is fells silk smooth so idk why but it just fells like it runs slower is hard to describe.

I bought two MSI vanilla "reference" 6950s about two weeks ago.

Here's why:
very cheap......275 + 25 MIR + free shipping.

I could unlock the card safely to the same clocks and shaders as the 6970s.

Less power draw than my GTX 580 by far.

Scaling seems very good in the 6900 series, so I went ahead and bought a third which should arrive today!

I think the XFire runs very well in my case. I haven't had alot of time to spend with games so far, my MB died 2 weeks ago as well so I have been spending alot of time tuning a new motherboard up.

I have only played about 4 hours of Dead Space 2, but I am very impressed so far.
My gameplay has been very smooth and consistantly at 75 FPS, the IQ seems more colorful than what I saw with my nvidia cards.
I run three 24" Dell monitors, so that FPS is at 5670 X 1200 resolution.

I don't think there is a better GPU for the money currently given what you can do to/with the card.
If you can still find a reference card/s do it.:D

would you recommend it over two 6970's at a price point?

Absolutely, if you can find two reference cards......TigerDirect still has a VisionTek for sale and Newegg still has the HIS brand for sale. I expect they will get some more MSI reference models in this week as well. Last week they had some but sold them out in 48 hours.
