I done a google search and couldn't turn up more than repeating websites with the same thing.

Any word on when they're gonna be released? I'm gonna be upgrading to a shuttle (to replace my rig that has considerably old parts (except the video card) and won't be buying a video card with it.

Given the performance of the 4000 series, I think the 4650 would be a HUGE jump over my 8500GT and I'm willing to wait.
 
4650 vs 9600 should be like 4850 vs 9800GTX. Win some, lose some, and wallop at 8x AA (if 256-bit bus rumours are true)

I might be wrong however.
 
4650 will be slower than 9600GT. It has a 128-bit memory bus, and is reasonably slower than 3850.
 
What would be the point in a 4650? The 4850 can be had for $150ish. Or less the card is sub $100 in price, I just dont see the point in a midrange card since the 4850 performs so well for its price.
 
3850 is actually around $110 now in Canada.

I think point of the 4600 series is to simply replace the 3600 series. They're quite a bit faster than the 3600 series clock for clock, and at the same price there's probably a decent market for them.
 
What's the point of a 4650, other than marketing? The 3850 already fits in that sort of product range so it's somewhat redundant. I think you'll see ATI have the 3650/3850/4850/4870/x2 as their products for the forseeable future. I'd expect the 3870/x2 to be EOL at this point.
 
The only reason I ask is because I'm gonna be gettin a shuttle rig (I understand the risks with it so don't flame me).

Anyway, I'm not fully sure the PSU could handle a 3850.
 
4650 would be a refresh of the 3650 which is a refresh of a 2600PRO. That would be only for a HTPC usage since gaming on that would be a little laughable.

Everyone doesn't need the kind of 3D performance that the 4850 offers. If you just want to watch movies and maybe play a few simple games, it's totally overkill. But I agree, a 3850 would also be fine, then.

I don't know about today's Shuttles, but my last Shuttle had no problems even when it was filled with high-end (at the time) components - Athlon64 3500+, one 7200 RPM drive and one 10K RPM Raptor, X800XT videocard and an M-Audio Delta1010LT 8in/8out audio card.. I think the PSU was something like 230W.
 
But the 3850 requires active cooling and a power connector, and is generally longer than the typical midrange cards. If you don't need something as fast as a 3850, the 4650 can be cooled passively, run with no external power connector and use much smaller PCBs. It's designed for a different market segment altogether.

I am 99.999% sure it's 128-bit since my "sources" are much more credible than Wikipedia :)
