I finally got around to Vmodding my old R9500 w/ Hynix mem. The default Vdd = 2.82 and the default Vref = 1.24. With memsinks, it will do about 311 before artifacting at default volatage.Now I did the Vdd mod only because I didn't have any spare 50K pots for the Vref mod. So I increase Vdd = 3.6 and yet I can only do about 315 before artifacts!

How important is it that Vref needs to be 1/2 of Vdd? Is this what's holding me back or is it the Hynix mem? You guys with the same card/mem, what kind of OCs can you get and did you do both mods?

3.6V is a bit much. Stick to 3.2Vdd, 3.0Vddq, and 1.5Vref. I been running a hard-mod'd 9500 (9700faux...R300/3.0ns Infineon) using Sapphire infineon pro bios, and those voltages for over a year. 1.75Vgpu, 380/320. Cooljag 313 1U sink, AS3, OCZ ramsinks.

Make sure you add good heatsinking to "ThePlate" as well. Vddq is hard to get at, careful pulling off the plate. I use an exacto knife to cut between the mosfet tops and plate underside.
 
Of course I ain't running 3.6V through the Hynix mem. It was only to show that going from 2.8 all the way upto 3.6 only yielded a fucking pathetic 4MHz more. Now is this because 1) the Hynix mem is shit or 2) the Vref is currently not 1/2 Vdd?
 
Well, I've managed to get the mem upto about 320 with 3.3V. Turns out that I had to bump up my 3.3V rail. The mem won't do much higher though w/out the goddamn artifacts.

Come on guys. This is the fucking [H] vid card forum, I'd imagine the great majority of you have your cards totally Vmodded. Can't anyone tell me if the Vref mod is worth my time or is my mem maxed out?
