R9800Pro vs. Geforce 5900XT

The R9800 Pro has slightly better framerates, but is also a few $$ more. They both must have 128MB as I can't afford the 256mb model of either.

I want to run Doom 3 and Farcry at reasonable resolutions (High-quality, 10x7or 8x6).

There's also the option of softmodding a R9800SE into a pro. Very cost-effective.

I'm a relative video card noob, so I'm guessing that you can't compare clock speed cross-platform (core/memory speed). So it wouldn't be fair to comparea 375MHz Radeon to a 600Mhz GeForce.

600mhz
The 5900XT is competetion for the 9600XT, and pretty much owns it.
But the 9800 pro is much faster than the XT, even more so with newer games, half life 2 being one of them.

i agree with him. i have a 9800pro and a friend of mine has a 5900xt and when we lan ut2k4 my FPS is constantly at least 20-30 more than his.

Okay, is there a good chance (upwards of 50%) that I will be able to softmod a Powercolor 9800SE (not a Sapphire) to 9800Pro?

i have a 9800pro with the r350 core and i am able to oc this bitch like crazy on air cooling..stock is 380/338 (676 ddr), im at about 445/755 on air!

unless your talking 3dmark 2005, then its the 9600xt that owns the 5900xt... and 5900 ultra... and 5950 ultra. :D :p

9800se TYPE2 (256 bit memory) from newegg.com, the sapphire one.. has a great chance of softmodding.

I thought the competition for a 9600xt was the 5700u...and the 5900xt was something between the 9600xt and 9800pro...

could be wrong though...

aww crap *&#*%^%^_$&(#()$^#&*^$%*&^$%(&%$(#&. Are all of you telling me I could have saved 20 bucks up and bought the 9800 pro instead? . ooo boy looks like I should have never upgraded from a 9600xt to a 5900xt. I feel like such an idiot

5900XT was a responce the 5700 getting its ass kicked by the 9600XT :D

Yeah I bought a 5900XT... nothing special. Kinda bleh upgrade from the Ti4600. I mean obviously it's faster, but not by a whopping lot. Main reason, I wanted to play with Linux.
