just got myself a new R9800. i was having problems with lockups in games (the screen just go black), after some testing, it turns out that my PSU is not supplying enough power to the card (i have a generic 300w PSU).

i dig out an old PSU which has a maximum rating of 100w, i did the pin mod so it's now using as the dedicated PSU just for the video card. so, is 100w sufficient for the card?

PS. after i added the 100w PSU, there is no more lockups, just want to make sure if 100w meets the 9800's power demand?

thats prolly a very old psu , and it might take out your card pretty soon

Doubt that it will take his card out. Measure the voltage on the PSU with a DMM and find out how stable it is, and also do this under load if possible. It should be fine.

the PSU is off from a HP PIII celeron desktop. it works out pretty well.
is R9800 sensitive to high AGP bus (> 66MHz)? i have my system oc from 133 -> 155, so the AGP is running @ 78MHz. this is a PIII-S system, so i dont have AGP lock on my mb.

i tried to card with AGP@66 and it's works perfectly.
with AGP@78, the card cant even finish looping 3dmark2001se test 4................
