Just cruising around the desktop with two browser windows open and this is the usage I'm seeing.

What's going on here?

Is this a glitch in afterburner? Because GPU-z isn't showing anything quite like this.

Didn't AMD cards have issues with web browsers for the higher end of 7000 series?
If 290x aren't a radically different design from those, I guess a continuation of the old problem?

It could be, but I didn't have the same issue with my 7950 Crossfire setup. Dunno

Not a big deal.

The only issue I every had was with Eyefinity desktop but if I sized the page or pages to a normal 1920 x 1080 size I had no issue.

Fired up Arkham City and I'm seeing that... which is also a weird usage pattern.

Just tried arkham city again, running AB 3.0.0 B15

What in the hell is going on...

I'm gonna install 13.11b8, disable ULPS, restart, and see what she does.

3rd attempt to play arkham city.. there's noticeable stutter.

get the same problem with only 1 gpu ?

Haven't tested that yet.

Here's a usage graph for Borderlands 2. The game seems smooth, but I don't know what the fuck is up with these graphs. I'm starting to get pissed.

So this is interesting, I disabled crossfire and launched Arkham City, and got this:

bslIHe8.png

The graph on the bottom is core clock, and despite only running at 55*C, the core clock would NOT go all the way to 1000mhz. It was hovering between 650 and 800.. so.. what the fuck is that, exactly?

u should take time to make yourself a forum signature so ppl will know what your general system is.
Powersupply , mobo what not.

are u using the default cooler or water cooling? quiet or uber mode?

in catalyst controler , under amd overdrive, is your gpu target temp still at 95c?

i5-3570k @ 4.1ghz
SeaSonic X-series 1050w
16gb ram @ 1333mhz

Basic build, more or less.

And yes the temp target is still 95*C, the cards are switched to uber mode.

Try a run of 3DMark 11 and see if your scores are in line. If so, the graphing in Afterburner is wak. If not you're card is really throttling. Looking at that graph though it doesn't show it throttling, it shows it coming to a complete halt for seconds at a time.

How can I find 3DMark 11 scores for a similar build?

Uninstall Afterburner maybe? That shit has been causing me so many problems, crashing my games and whatnot.

try disabling frame pacing on 3D application settings -> System settings

could also be afterburner not reading the cards correctly..

I'm about to run 3DMark, will post scores in a bit. Also gonna disable frame pacing and see what she does.

Well, I got decent results.

What killed my score in comparison to his was that my max CPU clock was 3.7ghz, while his was 4.4ghz.

So, that being said I'm thinking that it's just Afterburner being completely and utterly wrong. Additionally, it seems like it might just be Batman having problems.

It appears that I'm not alone in the stuttering issue, actually. It appears that everyone is having the same problems with this game.

So, in this case, consider the issue solved:
- 3DM11 scores are normal
- Borderlands 2 ran smooth
- Afterburner doesn't into R9 290X
- Batman stutters like Winston Churchill

This makes more sense. Max load of 24%, which is low, but consider that UE3 is capped at 62fps. Unfortunately, GPU-Z doesn't read GPU load on the second card for some reason.

was this a crossfire score. This seems low if it was

Still, this issue is bothering me. Anybody else with a 290X CF setup confirm the weird readings?

Hmm. Im in the 19k with my 680 sli. I figured 290x xfire would be way ahead.

I'm getting weird reading too. My score is a little higher than yours with my 3570k @ 4.4 and stock bios on my two 290x.

What motherboard do you have? Some motherboards have 1 PCI-e slot handeld by the CPU and another handled by a separate chip.

Okay, so with that I'm going to safely ignore the Afterburner readings until they update it to support the 290X properly.

i doubt my my over clock. would make up that huge diff over 290x crossfire.

here is my score. with one 290x. something is wrong with your score.

No, my score is perfectly fine, your physics score is literally more than double what mine is, and that score is PROCESSOR dependent. Note that my graphics score is twice yours (14k vs 27k)

To be truly honest, I really need to update my processor to something more beefy (along with water cooling probably) to unleash the true potential of this system, but I can't afford to do that just yet.

edit: faster ram would also be beneficial, since 1333 is starting to lag behind in performance these days. A proper 1600 or better yet 1866 would be best.

try gpuz, see what it says...

I did that earlier, and it showed a max load of 24% on Arkham city, which is low but makes sense considering the 62fps cap. The only problem is that GPU-z doesn't show load on the second card.

Yeah, sorry, i posted before i read the 2nd page.

i would guess AB needs to be updated for the 290 series, and is reading incorrectly.

You could also try Aida64 and see what it says,.

I'll try aida. Either AB needs to be updated to read right, or GPU-z needs to be updated to read GPU load on the second card.
