Shitty if true. But make sense to wait until bf4 is released.

With Nvidia announcing something on Tuesday it does make sense for AMD to wait. This allows AMD to see what Nvidia is doing and price accordingly to counter them.
Lol, it makes no sense whatsoever. AMD is the one that's supposed to have a hot new card, why should they be playing defense by waiting? Do they not have any confidence in their new hardware? Why isn't NVidia waiting so that they "can see what AMD is doing and price accordingly to counter them"?
Technically Nvidia having announcements on the day AMD is supposed to be lifting NDAs on the 290x is their counter.
Yeah, but they're not delaying their news until they see AMDs hand, are they? They're "spoiling", not "delaying and then countering".
If AMD is delaying to see what NVidia says, which I doubt tbh, they're pussies, period.
A 290x that beats the Titan priced competitively with a 780
That said, this seems to be a kind of pointless conversation given Roy's tweet.
Like factory OCd 780s have been doing for months.
Maybe, though the 290x wasn't specifically mentioned.
Comparing OC'd vs stock is kind've silly. OC'd 780 vs OC'd 290/x would be apples to apples.Like factory OCd 780s have been doing for months.

Comparing 290X to the Titan instead of a 780 is far more silly. What gamers are buying a Titan right now over a factory OCd 780? Seriously. Who?
Maybe Roy has to pull some more time to pull something out of his ass from his tweet saying that its 4x as powerful as a Titan @ 4k resolution.

Why are you crying about a joke?
You compare the 290/x to Titan since that is the top nV consumer card with ungimped compute, so as to keep the value/performance/feature comparison as close as possible, why is that so strange of an idea?Comparing 290X to the Titan instead of a 780 is far more silly. Can't be a delay if a release date was never announced in the first place. AMD has not disclosed any NDA date yet on 290/X, official word we have always had, since being briefed on R7 and R9 series, in regards to 290/X is: "NDA to be determined" So, I have no idea where people ever got the date of the 15th from. Complete internet made up rumor.

It originally came from the leaked slides that were posted a few days ago., "Under embargo until Oct 15th" or something to that effect.

Because most gamers don't give a rats ass about compute?
Tress FX anyone?
The new launch date
My yesterday’s post about the launch date caused a huge misunderstanding on multiple forums. So let me rephrase what I wanted to say and hopefully this will clear things a bit. The R9 290X will not launch tomorrow, instead it will launch around October 24th, while R9 290 should arrive on October 31st (both dates are just rumors, but a very good ones).
I was also told that October 15th, which was an NDA date in the slides leaked by Donanim Haber (and no, we didn’t made that up), was just a milestone, which was later updated by AMD during the GPU 14 event. Apparently they didn’t update it on time and it somehow made its way to the web. So technically it was postponed, but AMD will just say it was never meant to be launched on this date. Instead they will just claim it’s right on track and the schedule has not changed (of course it didn’t, but we never learned the official launch date).

Which wouldn't still wouldn't invalidate my point so I don't know why you bring it up?Because most gamers don't give a rats ass about compute?

Then why'd you bring it up if it wasn't part of your point?
The 99.9% of gamers that don't care about compute and aren't running 7680x1600 don't buy Titans, they buy 780s. Saying ZOMG the R9 is (might be) 100% of Titan performance for 65% of the price makes no sense when the comparison that makes sense for 99.9% of consumers may be 110% of 780 performance for 100% of 780 price.
According to Steams hardware surveys, Titans are massively less popular amongst gamers than the 780, despite having been released 6 months earlier, and the Titan's usage is (not surprisingly) not increasing, while 780 usage is climbing rapidly.
Frankie, while I understand the point you are trying to make, flagship releases have always been a fight for king of the throne - pitting the best against the best. In this case, that would be the 290X versus the Titan; irrespective of what gamers are willing to pay, or can afford (although, I suspect if Titans were only, let's say, $100 more than the 780's, the adoption rate would be much higher).
I get what the reality actually is, but the bleeding edge has never been a fight for what makes financial sense; it's always been about the raw numbers (and sometimes new, innovative features), when all is said and done.
Sounds like you're talking about corporate chest thumping and epeen comparisons.
I'm talking about logical comparisons that consumers will actually do as part of the thought process prior to their purchase, in which case what the Titan does or doesn't do isn't really relevant if the more logical comparison is between the 780 and the 290X.
If the 290X comes out at performance equal to the Titan and @ $699 it looks like a screaming deal. 100% of the performance at 70% of the price.
Unless Nvidia drops the price of the 780 to $500. Then the 290X will be offering ~10% more performance than the 780, at a 40% price premium. 10% more performance for 40% more money? Doesn't seem like a screaming deal to me.
Note that I'm not saying that this is what I think will happen, merely what the "flagship vs. flagship comparison only" mentality that so many have around here dictates.
You seem to be misreading/misunderstanding what I'm trying to talk about on a level that is jaw dropping...Then why'd you bring it up if it wasn't part of your point?
