I've always had a problem with Rome 2 where the R9 would for some reason lower its clock speed when zoomed in infantry. I solved this by overclocking by 1mhz using MSI Afterburner which caused the card to always run at max clock speed. Well fast forward 1 year later, now I can't replicate it, when I overclock using Afterburner the card will go into power saving mode at Desktop etc.

How can I force the card to always run at max clock speeds? I don't care for energy spent, I just want a smooth game play. Thanks!

use Radeon pro.

You can force max 3d clocks on a game by game basis without having it going balls out on the desktop.

I had similar issues with my 290X when gaming in Rome II & WOW.

I remedied the problem by going into Power Settings in the CP and selecting High Performance mode from Balanced Mode.

The balanced mode was on by default and caused my games to run at half the frames. I suffered especially in WOW. I would be getting 30-40 FPS in areas that I should have been locked at 60 for.

Hope this helps

I had power saving in CP at high already, but using Radeon Pro to force highest clocks while in game did the trick, thanks.
