Please see the specs in my signature. I would like to strip this system down and convert it to a Litecoin mining rig. I already bought two R9 280X cards. Will 280Xs even be recognized by this board? I was hoping to recycle that hardware instead of going out and buying a whole new setup. Thoughts please and thank you.
 
PCI-E 3.0 cards can fit into PCI-E 2.0 slots just fine. One should work just fine for you. However, that motherboard cannot support Crossfire configurations, as it runs an NVidia chipset. Modern motherboards don't have that problem, but older ones do, unfortunately for you.
 
yes, you could easily put 3 or 4 video cards in that mobo for mining. Use pci-e ribbon cables to get adequate space inbetween the gpus for cooling.

Theoretically, you can do up to 5 video cards in a motherboard with Win7. I've read that Win7 has problems after that.
You could use a 1x pci-e to 16x adapter for the 5th card.
