Hey guys, trying to see if anyone has a clue what is going on here. My friend wanted to build his first PC and this definitely got him a good taste of how things can go wrong. We picked up all the parts tonight and grabbed an MSI R9 270X Gaming card as it was nicely in his price range, coupled with an Asus M5A99X Evo R2.0 and an FX 8320.

Everything going great, installed windows 8.1. The second Win 8.1 initializes the AMD display driver, the screen goes black. Luckily I have an old 9800GT lying around to get it working and get the rest of the drivers done, but nothing helps. As soon as the machine finishes POST and windows loads past the point where the drivers initialize the screen goes black. As a matter of fact, it won't even boot properly with the nivida card as primary display.

Eventually we have tried:

- Windows 8 (regular) AMD driver loaded = black screen.
- Drivers from CD, same thing.
- Drivers auto-loaded through Windows, same thing.
- Switched BIOS dip switch on card, no improvement.
- Windows 7, same thing
- My PC with 8.1, same thing.
- My PC with 8 or 7, same thing.
- Returned the card for another one, same results.

I can't even locate an older driver than the 13.11 beta 8 or whatever it is right now on the AMD site to try, but my friend is now firmly convinced the only thing to do is return the card for a refund and buy something like a GTX 760.

What in the actual fuck is wrong with these cards? I've never spent 14+ hours trying to get a graphics card to work, and when the second one did the exact same thing I really started to wonder. I am stumped.

Guess nobody knows anything about it, it was returned in favor of a 760 which works perfectly. Never did figure out how it was possible to have two cards in a row with that same issue.

CM V1000, Corsair CX750, Enermax Platimax 1200 and an Antec VP650. Tried them on a Haswell machine, the AMD FX machine, and an X79 system with 3930k. Both cards showed the same behavior, no display as soon as AMD drivers loaded. If you kept the default windows generic it would work fine.

that seems to be a serious issue that started to become popular.. some people loading windows, some people just at the moment of load a game, some others after 10-30min of gaming, others just when open any web browser.. immature drivers of course..

I bought a MSI R9 270x Gamer Edition and am having the same problem...... Very frustrating.
