R7 360 & 4 Monitors Help

Hello,

Helping out a friend here who has an Asus R7360-OC-2GD5 and 4 Samsung displays.

I can get 3 monitors to work, but not the 4th one.

Setup as follows:

1x HDMI
1 DP > HDMI
2x DVI - HDMI

I can only get 3 screens up and running but not the fourth, don't matter which. I've read that one of the connector is shared with another and would only allowed me 3 screens.

What do I need to get to have 4 displays up and running?

It should work if the three DVI/HDMI displays are identical. However there are reports of this sometimes working and sometimes not.
Edit: Also the DP->HDMI adapter needs to be an active one.

If you want to be sure that it works, use at most two DVI/HDMI displays and connect the others via DisplayPort. A R7 360 there has only one DP, so you may have to use an MST hub or get a different graphics card.
 
The Samsung displays only have HDMI and VGA ports

Can you elaborate on the "DP>HDMI adapter needs to be the active one"? I do have an DisplayPort > HDMI adapter in place, but I'm not sure if it's active or passive ATM.

What are the possibilities of using a HDMI > VGA converter or DisplayPort > VGA converter?
 
Passive adapters are dependent on the clock-signal generators of the video card to drive the signal.

Active adapters have their own clock-signal generators so it can convert the DP signal (which is packet-based and has no clock) into DVI/HDMI without an external generator.

From your description you have a passive adapter which is disabling 1 of the 3 non-DP ports, which is why you are stuck at 3 displays (as the R7 360 has only 3 clock-signal generators). Active adapter should be $20-$30.
 
Yep, that adapter should do the trick.

The nVidia card will also work as none of the ports are DP, but you may not like it as much because you'll be using VGA on 1 monitor.
