R520 with 48 shader pipelines?

We've all heard rumors for a while that the Xbox 360 would be using a modified version of ATI's R520 chip. Now that the Xbox specs are out and point to a 48 pipeline version with a unified shader architecture I'm left wondering if the desktop card will see these kind of specs. I've been hearing rumors that the R520 would have up to 32 pipes and that ATi was looking at unifying vertex and pixel shader pipelines. Does the "custom" ATI GPU include the extra pipes? It should be interesting to see what will happen as there has got to be some serious performance in a 48-pipe setup.

Wow please stop spewing uninformed drivel
First of all R520 != Xbox360 chip, R520 is simply a shader model 3.0 chip from ATI.
The chip on the xbox is based on R500 which has unified pixel and vertex shaders in hardware(WGF 2.0 specs).
There are no more traditional pipelines as you people living in the past know them. instead it has a pool of 48 ALUs(Arithmetic logic units) that can either work on vertexes or pixels and are governed by a dynamic scheduler to keep em busy all of the time(in theory and ideally).

seriously all you people living in the past should stop having lives and keep up-to-date on this stuff. you're looking stupid here in the nerd community. come on now.

lol i barely post here cause i do have a life. I simply have better sources of information.

its only got 24pipelines not 48.

You forgot to add 'it's rumoured to have.....'

Unless that is you are a member of the R&D team and are dropping titbits ;)

This has to be either the funniest, saddest, or most retarded post I've seen in a long time.

Maybe hes the guy that fried his card by getting spunk on it?

As if you aren't about to do the same thing....

Where did you get this information? Where is the official, or even semi-official, statement from ATI saying this?

I am not saying that the R520 won't simply be a shader model 3.0 chip update from ATI because, like you, I don't KNOW what it will be despite putting a lot of effort intro trying to find out. You could very well be right, but you could easily be wrong.

What I am saying is that we don't really have any hard information on the R520 so unless you work at ATI, and are fully informed on the specs of the R520, what you are spewing is ultimately also uninformed drivel.

(Lorien, I will have to admit though that atleast you were accurate in your interpretation of other peoples speculation. the@ntipop was so far off the original rumors his information originally came from that it makes your post look like the most truthful and accurate statement ever made).

R520=Brand New Core=Very Good Core in Production for 3 Years.

Im excited for it.
