I sure hope so, This would be a pretty good GPU from the looks of the specs. Its not like te x850 is shabby, but this GPU looks much more appitizing

I can dig it!

Now all I need is a suggested retail price of $400.00 or less and I can die a happy man.

Looks good, a third faster then ATI's current card so I guess thats something. :)

The real question is can this be SLI'ed on current SLI mobos.

Is ATI's multirender going to use a bridge like nVidia's SLI? It would make sense that ATI would do something similar using the dual PCIe x16 slots, but do you think they can pull it off without a bridge?

Who cares about all that. I just wanna know if I can stick two of those in my A8N-SLI with no problems.

Does ATi handle SLI like the old 3dfx way, evey other line, or does it hand it like Nvidias new way where one card does half the screen and the 2nd card does the other half?

So let me get this straight...

we wont have ATi cards in SLI without their chipset... so say if i wanted an intel chipset or NForce Chipset... I would be sol?

From that article it sounds like we have to have an ATI chipset MB?

Well, if I build a system late this year or next year (and I don't go to the dark side), this sounds like the card to get (SLI or not)! :)

The ati chipset will let you use 2 differnt cards in there boards with drivers.

The nvidia only works with there cards.

I think May '06 may be a better estimate of when they'll hit the market. ATI isn't so dumb as to release the X850's and then replace them almost immediately. My guess is they'll run the X800/X850 for their respective one year cycles like they did the 9700/9800, and then put out something bigger and better (R520).

It's funny how rumors spread. Somebody pulls some specs outta thin air, posts them on a forum, and then it gets spread all over like it's gospel. No one ever takes the time to repeat older poster's more realistic predictions, like DaveBaumann or zakelwe. :p

I don't think it will have "hypermemory".....there would be no point to something so useless on a gpu w/ 512mb of RAM that's essentially as fast as my cpu

even if they are released in may we won't see availability untill next year or at least if they followed the current trend.

I don't think they will release it on the heels of the x850 but if nvidia pulls something they just might.

Yeah, I really don't see it coming out in May.I think if it does come out in 2005 it will be very late - like Nov/Dec.

I'll preodering one ASAP, though.

I think this last generation of GPU's was more a paper one than areal one...they should be launching these cards when they have them tested & on stock

x800 tech is over a year old now. the x850 isn't really a 'new' design, just a refresh with better yields.

I say this sounds friggin sweet even if its not 100% fact.

Go ATI ! ! ! ! !

I think it's horseshit. Like someone on the neowin forums pointed out, how can the shader op speed be known if the transistor count is not specified?

Yeah several years since it's just a supped up 9700 Pro. ;)
You know... to this date... the 9700 Pro was the Fastest Card for the time I ever owned....

For sure but I just don't like how they've just be updating it and calling it "new," kind of like when NV reused the older GF2 tech for their GF4 MX series (although that too did include some really good updates like DXVA support and an intergrated tv chip, not too sure about ATI's X series other then tech improvements). You know?

I feel that the whole X800s are just 9700s is just Slander.
I mean I know they are 9700s that have been "supped up" but have they been bad?

For sure but I just don't like how they've just be updating it and calling it "new,"

I would agree with you if what they have been doing hadnt gotten results. In the end their cards since the 9700's have been great and so I dont mind as long as they get good results.

IT doesnt matter if it's releasing in May and is superfast, you wont be able to get it in retail stores till the Fall. Thats the way it was with the X800 Pro and dont even begin about the XTs and XT PEs, they were barely availible if at all. Eh, who knows, maybe ATI will woo us and release on time to brick and mortar stores with an affordable msrp. That probably wont happen, but we'll have to wait and see.

This is like the first instance of ATI Selling at outragous prices and only to OEMs. With their next core (maybe or maybe not) they might, I stress might, be able to get it out fast and cheap.

Those numbers are total BS. Some of them may end up being more or less accurate (blind luck, or some minimal inside knowledge), but it's pretty clear the whole thing was more or less randomly pulled out of some guys ass.

There are lots of problems with the listed specs, but the two that merge together to prove it's BS are the May '05 release date and the 1.8ghz GDDR3. There isn't a chance in hell of them producing a retail product anytime in the next 6 months with 1.8ghz GDDR3. I looked up the websites of 3 of the biggest GDDR3 producers and not one of them even lists 1.8ghz (900mhz), GDDR3 on their site as something they produce!

If nobody is even making one of the key components for the card yet then there is no way it will be released with those specs in 3 months (unless it's a 100% paper release).

Now, if it said 1.6ghz GDDR3, and said July or so instead of May, then I wouldn't really have an argument right now. As it is though the 1.8ghz GDDR3 part of it pretty much invalidates the whole thing in my book.

I dont think we'll see 512mb cards right off to begin with. And when we do, i dont think they will be anything beyond 128bit due to limitation and cost for now. Deja vu 9800Pro. Memory is one of the most expensive and hardest to get a good stock of for cards, its better to manufacture alot of 256 and 128mb cards and sell to the mass public rather then a few 512mb to the elite gamers willing to pay $650+dollars a pop. Good thing is the core is cheap and easier to produce.

No...these will not work with Nvidia SLI technology....yes they will have support for ATI Multi Rendering.

On Nvidia's side, it appears it will be a bastard off-spring core of the NV40. Looks to be the 110nm NV47. Pipes will be the same most likely as its a uniform number (24), i'd definitly say ATI has the top dog right now. Not only do we not know much of anything about the NV47, but im not a fan of the NV40 core, and to be honost anything having its roots traced to it seems like building a foundation on quicksand.

What the hell are you talking about? The NV40 is an amazing core!
