R520 --> R500

Anyone else think that ATI may have given the real R520 to MS to get the contract, and then whipped up something else quick and put it in the place of the R520? Thories of course, but proof of this may be enough to turn an ATI fan boy like me to Nvidia.
 
No, the R500 isn't a DX9 part. It's pretty clearly a custom part.
 
the r500 seems like a superior product.

If they took the same chip with its embedded ram and made it designed for a PC I bet it would kick the shit out of the x1800xt.

No, ATI is inherently superior to nVidia, much better image quality even if the framerates don't match up.

I am actually really torn over this, the PS3 is using an nVidia chip, but I refuse to buy an Xbox360, and at the same time, I've sworn not to give nVidia any of my money... choices choices.
 
what if microsoft launches the 360 but you can't buy it anywhere due to it using an ati chip? ;)

r500 like 48 unified pixel processors or some insane shit like that.

from what i think ive heard, its designed around some sort of pseudo-DX10 API

As for the R500, no relation at all to the R520. I would really love to see that EDRAM make its way into a desktop card however...who can argue with free 4xAA?

Soul Calibur and Tekken both suck. I prefer kiddy fighting games like Naruto on GC..seriously :p
 
I think I read somewhere on this board that ATI won't come out with anything equivalent to the R500 for the PC until 2007.

I have no idea if that's true... but it does seem possible. I mean, XBOX is 4 years old and it doesn't look that much worse than many PC games...

Eh, i'd take GT over Forza anyday :p

But on the free 4x AA, its remains to be seen it its 'free' or not.

Xbox = GeForce 3.5. The GeForce 4 has more features and is faster.

The reason it still looks good is because a TV only runs at 600x400 resolution and it is a fixed targed for developers to optimze for.

i'm sure that little chip of EDRAM would raise the price of the cards at least $50 :D
