Damn im really struggling here
i could get a PowerColor 7990 for about 530 eur inc ship., about the same price 290x might be
and as far i can tell 7990 is faster; the whole voltage use is similar

Wouldn't be a better value to just buy 7990 ?

Well, if you have faith that AMD's driver team can iron out the stuttering, 7990 all the way.

The 7990 at current prices is a hell of a deal.

The 290X can be upgraded to Crossfire in the future, while adding a 7970 to the 7990 doesn't really do much. Also, from what I've seen two OC 7950 are only slightly faster than a stock 290X, so the 290X is probably not much slower than the 7990. If the 290X is going to give you 80fps on all your games on a 60Hz monitor, then it seems fast enough and you won't have any stutter issues. I'd wait for one with a real cooler though.

one screen, 7990.
however if you watercool the 290x and OC it, you would see similiar performance between the cards but 7990 also includes gaming bundle.

though choice but I go 290x as I preference newer cards and tech.

well 7990, as a gnc chip has Mantle support
and it is about 20% faster than Titan, hence i assume 780ti also
and just cost 50 eur more than 290x
290x is already a voltage /temp killer

never had such a dilemma before:(

if you can wait a few weeks, the 290 without X might be a good option also if it comes with aftermarket cooler with a better pricepoint.

and I agree, its a bee nest currently with cards.

Xfire doesn't work for every game tho. So you will actually have much worse performance on some games with 7990 while you will always have the best performance with a single 290x.

290X or non-X, future proof with newer tech, better CF implementation, true audio ect.

For that price I would get the 7990... I've been very happy with mine. Although I've read of some problems with the cards in CF, a single 7990 runs cool in a decent case. Temps max out at around 83C and the fan is quiet.

CF not working in some games is less of an issue than in year's past, nearly every game I've played has supported it.

7990 is significantly faster than a 290x also, around 35-40% faster in some games. Techpowerup is only outlet I saw use a 7990 in their test bench, here's a link:

ah good i hoped to get some input from a 7990 user

what about stuttering ?

Massively improved since the frame pacing driver was released. Don't notice any stuttering anymore. I game at 1600p.

I think they still haven't fixed it for Eyefinity/multi monitor users though so that's something to consider.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/7368926 This is my score with 2 V2 7990's.

These cards game like butter... Of course I am running 5 Asus VG248QE @ 144Hz too :)

And before you say I suck ... I was just fooling around showing the setup.

I will be going 4 290X as soon as they make either a Eyefinity 6 edition or a Lightning edition.

Nice vid. From appearances, it would appear that stuttering is hardly an issue.

7990 will always be beastmode.

Got two 7970GHz (Club3D TX2 '13 edition) for 498 Euro and got with each 3 games free. Hence 498 Euro and 6 games. Hard to beat that price. 1100 MHz GPU and 6GHz memory stock. Not great cooler and really no back bone. PCB is very flimsy.

7970GHz CF is faster then 7990. Plus more games with it and cheaper to.

Me = happy camper. Gonna be even more happy when Waterblocks back order passes. Seams no one here has EK CQS waterblocks :(
