Rest in Peace `o Sound Blaster Audigy. For you are my first casualty in my fight for cooling. I have been water cooling for years, with my first water cooling rig being one of the original Koolance cases, with nary a drop of water leaking. Alas, when I returned from walking the dog to find my game of Titan Quest completely locked up, I thought little of an issue. Upon reboot, when I found I had no sound, I thought - perhaps a driver was corrupted somehow. When I installed new drivers only to be told "NO COMPATIBLE DEVICE FOUND IN SYSTEM" I knew something was amis.
As I pulled off the side of the case, I expected to be greeted with the usual...maybe the card came unseated...hell..it is 5 years old...maybe the damn thing just died. But it wasn't meant to be. It was overly apparent...the cause of my grief...for upon inspection a quarter sized "pool" of water was found on the reverse side of the SB Audigy. It seems the hose clamp that has held the outbound water line from the video card to the pump had loosened itself up enough to cause a small leak...right on to the top of the SB Audigy card.
Forced to actually install the sound module for my DFI Lanparty motherboard, I am happy to report I am not soundless...but this IS one helluva "excuse" to get a new Soundblaster card...and the better half has already resigned to the fact....NICE!
SO REST IN PEACE SOUND BLASTER AUDIGY. You were great while I knew you...and I hope you will be the last to die a horrible watery death.
