I am building myself a new rig, and giving my old system to my girlfriend. Signature she is getting is in the sig:
QX6850 cooled w/ XIGMATEK HDT-S1283
Asus P5Q Pro
DDR2 1000 2x2GB
Gigabyte 5770OC GPU
Corsair HX520
I always had issues with temperatures on this CPU, but after piecing it back together last night I realized I did an abysmal job with the thermal grease. I reapplied the thermal grease with Noctua NT-H1 TIM, and now my temps are very good. My confusion is that Prime95 only shows Workers 1, 2 and 3. I don't see a worker 0 or a worker 4. Intel Burn test gives me about 65C at stock settings of the CPU and stress tests all CPUs according to CoreTemp and task manager, as does Prime95. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them?
This computer will still be excellent for my girlfriend to play some games and as a workstation for her, so I was hoping to get this overclocked now that the temps are pretty darn good.
