'Quit Facebook' Protest Day Flops

Even if it didn't show up in your news feed for all to see, ANY of your friends can go look at your profile and see it.

Therefore, it's not a privacy issue.

 You can't see that just because you have a "friend" on facebook you should allow the site to openly tell them everything you do? There's clearly a difference between you editing your profile and then having the website automatically post a message (here's a hint: you aren't making the post yourself, the website does it for you... go look and mess with your profile, it doesn't say "SHARE" or "POST" when you change your profile, it says "save changes"). In my eyes this is akin to someone following you around and every time you make a change to say, your appearance (change hair color, get a hair cut, new clothes, etc), that person goes and notifies your friends, even though those friends may eventually go and see for themselves the changes you've made. You're gonna say that guy following me around isn't invading my privacy?

I suppose the better question is: why are you even arguing with me that I want the option to tell facebook to not automatically make the post? No, lists do not completely solve the problem I'm talking about and neither does any setting you can change currently.

I don't say how some of you claim this failed. They got a news article written, so apparently they've done something to raise awareness. Not everyone reads every news article posted about facebook's privacy settings. For average person hearing about this exodus, it might be their first time understanding people didn't like part of facebook's design.

You'd have a point, if you actually had controls to prevent people from looking at basic profile info. But there's no such controls. It'd make more sense if you were arguing for that, but it'd still be a stupid argument: as if any of your friends can't see your most basic profile info, why the hell have them as friends.

But no, Facebook has a default level of visibility for all people. That includes your basic profile information. Reasoning (which is sound) is that if you add someone as a friend they can probably at least see your basic info.

All that circles back to what I've said from the freaking start of this thing: everyone can see it, regardless of news feed. News feed just makes it easier than manually checking out every single profile on all your friends.

As if the past articles on Facebook's privacy problems and Mark's douchism weren't enough.
